Robert de Clari, Crusader

The Crusader Knight Robert de Clari in 1203

In 1203, the Crusader Knight named Robert de Clari claims to have seen the cloth in Constantinople. He wrote:

Where there was the Shroud in which our Lord had been wrapped, which every Friday raised itself upright so one could see the figure of our Lord on it.

He is referring to a ceremony in which the cloth was raised slowly to a full upright possition from a folded stored position.
